Synopsis

In 2029, following global conflicts, a Japanese-led Asian bloc governs the world, enforced by elite cybernetically enhanced agents. These operatives combat high-tech threats by "ghost hacking" into machines and cyborgs. Major Motoko Kusanagi and her team pursue the "Puppet Master," a rogue AI that considers itself a life form. This entity, created by a rival agency, seeks political asylum and a physical body, challenging its creators and the established order.
