Two friends, Miaka and Yui, are transported into a mystical book after discovering it in a library. They are separated when Miaka is rescued by Tamahome, a warrior with a distinctive mark. Miaka learns she may be the prophesied priestess of Suzaku, a divine being capable of granting wishes. If she can gather Suzaku's seven warriors, she might be able to save her country and find her lost friend. Unbeknownst to Miaka, Yui is returned to their original world and can only watch as Miaka embarks on this perilous quest.
